Career History:
Geomatics offers me the opportunity to combine my interest in
science with my love for the natural environment. ‘Geomatics’ refers
to the collection, analysis, and management of Earth-based data
coming satellites, aerial photography and ground observations. This
data is used to model, understand and manage real world problems
related to engineering, the natural environment, urban management
and much more. I completed BSc (Hon) at the University of Cape Town,
where I developed a range of skills in measurment science, database
and systems design, geographical analysis and modelling. I worked at
the National Mapping Organisation, Chief Directorate Surveys and
Mapping, from 2004 to July 2006, where I conducted a variety of
research. My main focus was the development of a land cover mapping
programme. I am now working with Cape Nature Conservation providing
GIS support for the Fine-Scale Biodiversity Planning Project and am
based at Kirstenbosch Gardens.
