Career History:
I completed a BSc in Surveying at UCT in 1989 and proceeded directly
with a Masters degree in Engineering at the same university. For my
thesis I investigated the use of GPS for vertical crustal
deformation monitoring for the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.
After graduating in 1991 I began working for the Cape Town City
Council where I completed my cadastral articles and was registered
as a Professional Land Surveyor. In 1996 I joined the Department of
Geomatics at the University of Cape Town as a senior lecturer and am
currently the programme convenor for the BSc Geomatics and BSc Hon
GIS programmes. I’ve been actively involved in professional bodies
having been the Vice President and President of the local branch of
the South African Geomatics Institute. I am currently studying for a
doctoral degree through the University of Calgary in Canada. My
persona interests include surfskiing, mountain walking, mountain
biking, boogie boarding, hobie-cat sailing, reading and bird
watching. I am also married with two girls aged four and six.
